Weaving Classes and Workshops Weaving instructor Felicitas Sloves offers several levels of weaving instruction at MemphisWeaver studio located in her home in East Memphis. Classes include off loom weaving, frame loom weaving, inkle loom weaving and rigid heddle loom weaving. Classes at the MemphisWeaver studio can accommodate up to 4 students. MemphisWeaver is able to take the studio "on the road" to your home or facility for small group classes of up to 12 students. Traveling classes have been presented at schools, churches, community centers, senior centers and retirement communities. Private lessons are also available. All ages and levels of ability are encouraged to register for a class and weave something wonderful to take home to share with your family and friends. No previous weaving experience is necessary for any of the classes described below. MemphisWeaver info@memphisweaver.com 901-734-8480 OFF LOOM WEAVING In this 3 week class, students will meet once a week to understand the "under and over " process of needle weaving. Students can choose to weave a small 3-dimensional ornament such as the one pictured, or weave a pin or pendant for a necklace. FRAME LOOM WEAVING In this beginning class, students will learn the basics of weaving, and weave a textured "tapestry" on a prepared frame loom. Students will mount their finished piece on a fabric board for wall display. Classes meet once a week for 3 weeks INKLE LOOM WEAVING Students will learn how to set up or "warp" an inkle loom and weave a narrow band. Students will decide how to finish their bands from a choice of a belt, small purse, guitar strap, or dog collar/leash. Classes meet once a week for 4 weeks. RIGID HEDDLE LOOM WEAVING Using a traditional rigid heddle loom, students will prepare a "warp" on the loom and weave their choice of a purse or scarf. Classes meet once a week for 4 weeks. |
